Jammu, Jan 23, KNT: An accident was reported on Friday after a truck laden with LPG cylinders plunged into a deep gorge on the Amphalla Road near Nagrota, officials said.
The truck, which was on its way to Nagrota from Jammu, reportedly skidded on the slippery road conditions, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. As a result, the truck veered off the road and fell into the gorge, scattering LPG cylinders at the accident site.
Officials said the driver sustained critical injuries in the accident and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was stated to be serious.
Following the incident, authorities rushed to the spot to prevent any potential hazard. Another truck was brought to the site to safely retrieve and transport the LPG cylinders that had fallen into the gorge, as a precautionary measure to avert any explosion or fire.
Traffic on the road was regulated while rescue and clearance operations were underway. Police said slippery road conditions due to prevailing weather were prima facie the cause of the accident. [KNT]
