Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has welcomed the recent snowfall in Kashmir, saying it was much-needed after a dry January. “We were waiting for snowfall since really long, but thank god, leaving Srinagar aside, there is significant snowfall in rest of the districts,” he said.
Addressing the damage caused by gusty winds, Abdullah said, “Yesterday, there was damage across various parts in Kashmir, and our feeders were also down. We will try to compensate for the losses. We are providing 1700 megawatt electricity, but it had gone down to 100, and there was a demand of 1600 megawatt.”
The CM is hopeful about reaping benefits from the snowfall in the upcoming winters and summers. “We are going to reap the benefits of this snowfall in the upcoming winters, and we are also hoping that the summers are going to be really good for us,” he said, adding that snowfall is the lifeline for Kashmir.
