JK News Live

Jammu, Jan 27, KNT: A massive fire broke out at a pencil manufacturing factory on Akhnoor Road in Jammu on Tuesday, causing extensive damage to the industrial unit, officials said.

According to officials, the fire erupted in the factory premises under unknown circumstances and quickly spread, gutting large portions of the unit. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the site, triggering panic in the surrounding area.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and launched firefighting operations. Multiple fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the blaze under control, officials said, adding that operations were still underway at the time of filing this report.

Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. However, the factory suffered heavy losses as machinery, raw material and finished goods were damaged in the fire.

Police also reached the site shortly after the incident. “The exact cause of the fire will be determined and a detailed assessment will also be carried out,” said a police official. KNT]
