Leh, January 27, 2026: The Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Shri Ashish Kundra, today chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of the Compliance Reduction and Deregulation exercise being undertaken across various departments in the Union Territory.
The meeting aimed to evaluate existing regulatory frameworks and identify opportunities to simplify procedures, reduce unnecessary compliance, and enhance the overall ease of governance for citizens, businesses, and stakeholders. Senior officers from concerned departments participated in the deliberations.
During the meeting, a detailed PowerPoint presentation was made outlining the key sub-priority areas identified under the deregulation initiative, along with a proposed action plan. The presentation provided an overview of priority sectors requiring regulatory reforms to improve efficiency and streamline departmental processes and highlighted sector-specific challenges, proposed regulatory simplifications, and a roadmap for implementation.
The roadmap presented included timelines for implementation, inter-departmental coordination mechanisms, and monitoring frameworks to ensure the timely execution of the proposed reforms. Emphasis was laid on leveraging digital solutions, reducing redundant approvals, and adopting citizen-centric approaches in regulatory practices.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary took stock of a comprehensive overview presented by the concerned departments, reviewing their allocated roles and responsibilities, progress achieved under the compliance reduction and deregulation exercise, and key regulatory issues requiring intervention. He also assessed department-wise action plans and emphasised coordinated efforts to ensure effective and timely implementation of the proposed reforms.
Earlier, Chief Secretary Shri Ashish Kundra held a meeting with various stakeholders to review the ongoing Compliance Reduction and Deregulation exercise. During the interaction, he held detailed discussions on a range of issues, including the development and strengthening of the online portal for tourism-related services, simplification of procedures for hotel registration, streamlining the process for renewal of certifications, and several other regulatory requirements affecting stakeholders.
The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to share their concerns and suggestions, enabling the administration to identify practical measures for reducing procedural bottlenecks, enhancing transparency, and improving ease of doing business in the tourism and allied sectors.
