Srinagar, April 9, KNT: A major fire broke out at Shalla Kadal in the Habba Kadal area of Srinagar during pre-dawn hours, gutting at least five residential houses and causing extensive damage to property.
The blaze engulfed a cluster of closely attached houses, allowing the fire to spread rapidly across adjoining structures in the densely built locality.
Fire tenders from multiple stations, including Headquarters, SH Pora Maharaj Gunj, and Babdemb, were rushed to the scene after a distress call was received at the State Fire Control Room in Batamaloo.
Upon arrival, firefighting teams found several houses already engulfed in flames. Operations were launched immediately to contain the fire and prevent further spread.
The situation worsened as multiple gas cylinder explosions were reported during the incident, intensifying the blaze and complicating firefighting efforts.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services, Alok Kumar, while senior officers remained present at the site to monitor the response.
After sustained efforts, the fire was brought under control, preventing it from spreading to additional structures in the area.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case. [KNT]
