Focus laid on Food Safety and Animal Health
GANDERBAL, APRIL 25: World Veterinary Day was observed with enthusiasm in Ganderbal today at the Farmers Conference Hall under the theme “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” highlighting the vital role of veterinary professionals in ensuring animal health and food safety.
District Sheep Husbandry Officer, and other officers and officials of the department attended the event which also witnessed participation from senior paravet staff and progressive sheep farmers of the district.
Speakers on the occasion underlined the importance of veterinary services in disease prevention, livestock development, and supporting rural livelihoods. They also stressed the relevance of the “One Health” approach, which connects animal, human, and environmental health.
Experts raised awareness about zoonotic diseases and emphasized preventive measures such as vaccination, hygiene, and safe handling of animal products. The need for coordinated efforts to safeguard public health was also highlighted.
Farmers shared their experiences during the programme and appreciated the support extended by the Sheep Husbandry Department.
The event concluded with a pledge by participants to continue working towards healthier livestock, safer food, and improved public health.
