The championship has attracted a record-breaking participation of over 1,500 athletes from more than 195 universities, making it one of the largest university-level martial arts events ever hosted in Kashmir. This remarkable turnout reflects the growing popularity and competitive spirit of Wushu among university athletes nationwide., thereby serving as a dynamic platform, the championship enables young sportspersons to showcase their martial arts excellence, demonstrating exceptional strength, agility, and technical finesse.
The week-long event is witnessing intense bouts across both men’s and women’s categories. On the second day of the championship, a total of 220 bouts were conducted in the men’s Sanda division across 12 weight categories, namely: below 48 kg, 52 kg, 56 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg, 85 kg, 90 kg, 100 kg, and above 100 kg.
The competitions were marked by fierce contests, tactical brilliance, and outstanding athletic performance throughout the day.
The women’s division bouts are scheduled to commence from tomorrow morning, while the advancing men athletes will continue their bout into the subsequent rounds, promising even more intense and thrilling contests in the days ahead.
The University of Kashmir is emerging as a premier hub for national-level sporting events, setting new standards in sports management and infrastructure. The championship is not only elevating the profile of Wushu, but also positioning the University as a vibrant launchpad for sporting excellence in India.
