An intense and short-lived snowstorm swept across parts of Kashmir, delivering exceptionally heavy snowfall in a very compressed 15-hour window, turning the episode into one of the most aggressive winter events of the season.
Regions closer to the Pir Panjal range were the worst affected. Plains of Shopian district recorded 1.5 to 3 feet of snow, while higher reaches of Shopian saw accumulations reaching up to five feet — an extraordinary amount for such a brief spell.
The storm’s impact extended beyond Shopian, affecting parts of Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, Kupwara, and Baramulla districts as well. In higher elevations across these areas, snow accumulation ranged between 2 and 5 feet, all occurring within the same short duration.
