Srinagar, Jan 25, KNT: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Sunday said that any lapse in the snow clearance process will be dealt with strictly, asserting that the government is accountable to the people and will not tolerate negligence by officials during the winter season.
The Deputy Chief Minister said he is personally on the ground and is seeking direct feedback from the public regarding snow clearance and winter preparedness. He said the Chief Engineer had already been directed to remain fully prepared for snow clearance operations ahead of snowfall.
Choudhary, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the control room that had been set up on his directions, saying it was not operating as per his expectations. He said the issue would be reviewed and corrective steps taken to ensure better coordination and responsiveness.
“I will speak to the MLAs, and if they confirm any lapses, strict action will be taken. I always counter-check. We are accountable to the people, and if some do not want to work, they should sit at home,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
He said while funds are limited as the region is a Union Territory, the public demand is at the level of a state. Despite financial constraints, he said the government remains committed to fulfilling all promises made to the people.
The Deputy Chief Minister also appealed to the public not to be misled, stating that certain elements are attempting to portray the government in a bad light. He said the administration is working under challenging conditions and remains focused on ensuring public convenience and safety during the winter months. [KNT]
