Division of Forest Biology and Tree Improvement,Faculty of Forestry -SKUAST Kashmir today on 28th of April-2026 celebrated Earth Day 2026 with the theme “Our Power Our Planet with subtheme “Promoting Renewable Energy, Climate Resilience and Sustainable Resource Management with great enthusiasm and commitment to environmental stewardship. The event was generously funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, New Delhi.
The programme commenced with an engaging ice-breaking session aimed at sensitizing participants and creating awareness about pressing environmental challenges. This was followed by a solemn pledge ceremony led by Dr. Sabeena Nabi Organising Secretary and Assistant Professor Division of Forest Biology and Tree Improvement FOF-SKUAST-K where students and faculty reaffirmed their dedication to protecting the planet and promoting sustainable practices.
The event was further enriched by insightful “Words of Wisdom” delivered by Prof. P.A. Khan, Head FBT,FoF,SKUAST-Kashmir,who emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions in addressing climate change.
The keynote address was delivered by the Dean, Faculty of Forestry Prof.A.H.Mughal, who highlighted the critical role of renewable energy, climate resilience, and sustainable resource management in shaping a sustainable future.
A highlight of the programme was an intellectually stimulating debate, conducted in the form of interactive lectures, between students of the Faculty of Forestry and students from H.K.M.C School, Manigam. The participants actively exchanged ideas and perspectives on environmental conservation, showcasing remarkable awareness and enthusiasm.
Formal Vote of thanks was extended by Dr.Ashfaq Ahmad Mir, Assistant Professor Division of Forest Biology and Tree Improvement,FoF SKUAST -K.
The programme was concluded with plantation and cleanliness drive immediately after the declaration of winners, who were recognized for their outstanding performance and insightful contributions.
The celebration successfully fostered environmental awareness, encouraged youth participation, and reinforced the importance of collective action towards a sustainable and resilient planet.
