GANDERBAL, MAY 02: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore today chaired a meeting of the officers of District Administration to review the progress of the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan in the district.

At the outset, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) briefed the meeting regarding the programme chalked out by the district administration for the 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, which was launched by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor. He informed that a structured plan involving all departments has been put in place with a focus on enforcement, awareness, rehabilitation and community participation.

The meeting was apprised that over 2,000 awareness programmes have been conducted across the district, covering schools, colleges, areas, religious institutions and public spaces. House-to-house outreach is being carried out by health, police and revenue teams, while religious leaders, youth groups and civil society members are actively participating in spreading awareness.

It was further informed that significant progress has been achieved within the first three weeks of the campaign. A total of 29 driving licences belonging to drug peddlers have been cancelled so far, including six in the past week. Seven FIRs have been registered against individuals involved in drug peddling, while several drug hotspots have been identified and dismantled.

The meeting also noted that 17 individuals have been rehabilitated so far, with efforts underway to connect them to livelihood opportunities under Mission YUVA.

Highlighting the role of institutions, it was informed that the Central University of Kashmir has conducted 24 awareness programmes and plantation drives, while multiple departments are organising rallies, seminars, sports activities and public campaigns to engage youth and communities.

During the meeting, the DC stressed the need for strict enforcement against those involved in the drug trade while maintaining sustained awareness efforts at the grassroots level. He directed all officers to ensure visible and measurable outcomes under the campaign and to intensify coordination between departments.

The DC instructed the Police and Drug Control authorities to continue strict action against illegal sale of psychotropic substances and ensure regular inspections. He also directed officers to strengthen rehabilitation efforts and ensure proper follow-up of recovered individuals through skill development and employment initiatives.

Emphasising community involvement, the DC asked officers to actively engage Panchayat representatives, youth clubs, educational institutions and religious leaders to transform the campaign into a mass movement. He further directed that awareness programmes be conducted regularly in schools, colleges and public spaces with a focus on behavioural change.

The DC also called for better publicity of the campaign through all available platforms and directed departments to document their activities and submit regular progress reports. He stressed the importance of accountability and asked all departments to strictly adhere to the targets assigned to them.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment, the DC said that the goal is to make Ganderbal a drug-free district through sustained enforcement, awareness and rehabilitation efforts, and urged all stakeholders to work with dedication and urgency to achieve lasting impact.
