Manoj Bajpayee says, “We went completely wrong when we started celebrating box office”
Manoj Bajpayee will next be seen on Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, which will release on ZEE5 on May 23.
Manoj Bajpayee is easily one of the best actors to have emerged from India. He has been giving fine performances since over two decades now. But along with being good on screen, he has also been someone who speaks his mind while giving interviews.
In his latest chat with Free Press Journal, Bajpayee opined that it’s not right to judge a film from its box office numbers. “Cinema here in India has always welcomed mainstream films. Later, we started celebrating box office and that’s when we went completely wrong. Instead of focusing on the quality, they all started judging the film by its money earned. When that happened, content took a back seat,” he said.
But Bajpayee believes that the rise and boom of OTT has helped in bringing content back to the limelight. “With OTT, we got more buyers and takers for good content, be it any genre. OTT is very powerful and has given a belief in cinema with content. I personally want cinemas to be back, and it will happen in a couple of years. But I strongly feel that these two mediums can co-exist together. It will be a fair comparison and that comparison will only give a chance to great cinema and opportunities to several talented people,” said the actor.
Manoj Bajpayee will next be seen in the movie Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, which will stream on ZEE5 from May 23.
