Kupwara, Feb 09 (KS) : Doctors at Sub District Hospital (SDH) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district performed a cancer surgery on a patient for the first time on Friday.
A health official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that doctors at Sub district Hospital (SDH) Kupwara have achieved a medical milestone by successfully performing a cancer surgery for a locally advanced colon cancer in a 47-year-old male patient. Despite facing financial challenges that hindered frequent visits to SKIMS Soura, the patient received timely and expert care at SDH Kupwara.
The official said that upon presentation at outpatient department two weeks ago, the patient, who was anaemic and malnourished, was admitted and meticulously prepared for surgery with multiple blood transfusions. Following thorough staging and workup, the patient underwent a Right Hemicolectomy with Complete Mesocolic Excision with D3 Dissection, a complex procedure rarely performed at the district or subdistrict hospital level.
He said the surgical team, led by Dr. Rayees Ahmad Dar, Consultant Colorectal, General, and Laparoscopic Surgeon, along with Dr. Jaffer Hussain and support staff including Mr. Wali Mohd, Mr. Abdul Ahad, Mr. Nisar Ahmad, and Mr. Syed Tariq, exhibited exemplary skill and dedication throughout the procedure. The anaesthesia team, comprising Dr. Jahangir, Dr. Arif, Mr. Ghulam Rasool Bhat, and Mr. Veer Pal Singh, ensured the smooth execution of the surgery. Additional support from Shabir Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad, under the guidance of HOD Surgery Dr. Arshid Hussain, contributed to the successful outcome.
The official further said said we are delighted to report that the patient exhibited excellent progress both intraoperatively and postoperatively, with no complications, and was discharged from the hospital in good health. (KS)
