JKSCERT directs to conduct remedial classes of ‘unsuccessful students’ of 8th standard for supplementary assessment
JK News Live

Srinagar, May 03 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (JKSCERT) has informed that the potential learners of 8th standard who could not qualify the annual regular exams can avail the opportunity of appearing in the supplementary assessment.

The council said that the exams of the potential learners would be conducted under Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme (SA&ES) after undergoing the necessary remedial teaching.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Joint Director Central of JKSCER in a circular has said that as per the SA&ES, the candidates who could not qualify the Middle Standard Examination 2023-24 for both hard and soft zone can avail the opportunity of appearing in the supplementary assessment after undergoing the necessary remedial teaching.

“Accordingly, the concerned schools are requested to undertake the remedial classes of the potential learners as per the guidelines notified in SA&ES and subsequently, complex heads are advised to conduct the supplementary Assessment (examination) under the supervision of concerned DIET after completion of the remedial classes,” it reads.

JKSCERT also directed that the whole process shall be completed within two months including supplementary examination.

“Furthermore, the complex heads shall provide the list of candidates to their respective DIETs who shall maintain the database and closely monitor the progress in the matter,” reads the circular.

In December-2022, the government decided that it will retain the unsuccessful students of classes 5th and 8th irrespective of their weak performance by promoting them provisionally to the next level.

The authorities in this regard had issued a notification regarding the ‘Student Assessment and Evaluation Scheme’ upto Class 8th for government and government recognised schools of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the provisions in National Education Policy-2020 and Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2019 (as amended).

In the notification, authorities had said that “Result of classes 5th and 8th shall be prepared mainly on the basis of academic performance of the student throughout the year. Uniform question papers to be prescribed by SCERT for year end assessment for classes 5th and 8th.”

It also states that the students (Potential Learners) shall be identified on the basis of performance and competency in assessment.

“The students (Potential Learners) shall be promoted to next class on provisional basis with arrangement for special teaching of 2-3 months during vacations or beginning of next session followed by re-assessment for grade appropriate competencies and in case of inability to meet the qualification criteria in such re-assessment tool, the student shall be detained,” it reads—(KNO)
