Srinagar, Dec 03 (KNO): The government of India has said that a total of 32 drug de-addiction centres in the Union Territory under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NADPDDR) have got an allocation of Rs 5.45 crore from 2021 to November 2024 periodically.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the data was provided by Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, B.L. Verma in the Parliament.
According to the data, Jammu and Kashmir has 32 drug de-addiction centres, of which 1 is under IRCA, 3 are under OIDC, 2 under CPLI, 5 under DDAC, 20 under ATF, and 1 under SLCA.
The data also revealed that funds released to these centers amounted to Rs 0.6 crore in 2021, Rs 2.7 crore in 2022, and Rs 2.15 crore in 2023, bringing the total funds released to Rs 5.45 crore.
To address substance use, the Ministry implements the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), a centrally sponsored scheme that provides financial assistance to State Governments/Union Territory (UT) Administrations for preventive education, capacity building, and drug demand reduction programs.
The scheme also supports NGOs/VOs for running Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts (IRCAs), Community-Based Peer-Led Interventions (CPLI), Outreach and Drop-In Centres (ODIC), and District De-Addiction Centres (DDACs), as well as Government Hospitals for Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs)—(KNO)
