By: Hadi Hidayat

Ganderbal:- Despite growing concerns, illegal trout fishing continues unchecked in Nallah Sindh at Wussan and Chinner areas of central Kashmir’s District Ganderbal.

The Fisheries Department’s inaction and field employees apathy have emboldened hundreds of youths to indulge in illegal fishing, posing a significant threat to Kashmir’s trout population.

On Tuesday, illegal fishing was carried out in broad daylight on the Srinagar-Leh highway near Chinner area of Kangan with no fear of repercussions. The blatant disregard for the law has raised concerns among locals, who are demanding strict action against those involved and the errant employees of the Fisheries Department.

Studies have shown a disturbing decline in Kashmir’s trout population, primarily due to illegal fishing practices. If left unchecked, this could have devastating consequences for the region’s ecosystem and economy.

Locals have expressed deep concern and are urging the authorities to take immediate action to curb illegal fishing, protect the trout population, and hold accountable those responsible for this environmental crime.

They are demanding strict action against the employees of the Fisheries Department who have failed to prevent illegal fishing.

the department responsible for protecting our natural resources is instead turning a blind eye to this illegal activity, comment a local resident of Ganderbal.

Assistant director fisheries Ganderbal Muhammad Aslam talking to this Reporter said, our team has reached on spot, we will identify the offender’s and initiate action.
