Srinagar, Aug 29 : The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Kashmir has registered two separate cases of land fraud against two Srinagar residents for allegedly cheating buyers through deceitful property sales, forging revenue documents and committing criminal breach of trust.

Officials identified the accused as Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, resident of Nowgam Srinagar, and Shabir Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Ismail Wani, resident of Lasjan Srinagar.

One of the cases was filed on the complaint of a woman who stated that Riyaz Ahmad Bhat sold her a piece of land measuring 1 kanal and 5 marlas at Moza Balhama under Survey No. 312 Min, Khewat No. 27 and Khata No. 200 against a payment of 25 lakh rupees. However, she alleged that no land was handed over to her, and the same plot was later sold to another individual. The cheques issued by the accused towards repayment were dishonoured.

In another case, it was alleged that both accused persons, in connivance with revenue officials, duped another complainant of 73 lakh rupees. The complainant stated that he purchased 1 kanal and 10 marlas of land at Balhama Patha Chowk, falling under Survey No. 1683/315 Min, Khewat No. 45 and Khata No. 317, for which a registered sale deed was executed. Later, it surfaced that the revenue records were fabricated and the same land had already been sold to someone else.

Officials further said that both Riyaz Ahmad Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Wani have previously been arrested in connection with a similar case (FIR No. 14/2025).

The Economic Offences Wing has initiated a detailed investigation into both fresh cases and stated that the role of revenue officials and any other third parties will be examined thoroughly. Authorities assured that strict legal action will follow based on the outcome of the probe.
