2 still missing, rescue op called off due to inclement weather, darkness

Ganderbal, Apr 28 (KNO): At least four persons were killed after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident near Gagangeer, Sonamarg in Ganderbal district on Sunday. Two individuals are still missing while two have been taken to Srinagar’s SKIMS hospital for treatment, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a vehicle carrying tourists from Sonamarag to Srinagar met with an accident near Hung area of Gagangeer.

He said that the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the river Sindh. “Among nine individuals traveling in the vehicle, four persons died on the spot while two others have been rescued and taken to the hospital,” he said.

He added that two more individuals are still missing while the driver has received minor injuries in the accident, who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The identification of deceased was not known immediately, while the injured have been identified as Nima Pasang Sherpa son of Kale Sherpa of Nepal and Sameer Ahmad son of Sageer Ahmad of Uttar Pradesh. The driver has been identified as Muhammad Saleem Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir of Nillah Najwan.

Officials said that rescue operation has been called off due to prevailing weather conditions and darkness—(KNO)
