Jamia Millia Islamia is pleased to announce its contribution to a major international research initiative examining how social connection, loneliness, and belonging are understood and experienced across diverse cultural contexts.
Prof. Samina Bano, Head of the Department of Psychology, and Sayed Ebrahim Mubasheer SM, Senior Research Fellow, were members of the Indian research team. The findings from India have been released as part of the India Country Report, which forms a component of a multi-country qualitative research programme led by the Annecy Behavioral Science Lab.
The international project is led by Dr. Hans Rocha IJzerman and Dr. Miguel Silan of the Annecy Behavioral Science Lab, serving as Director and Co-Director respectively. Prakhar Srivastava, Senior Researcher at ABSL, led and coordinated the Indian research efforts. Drawing on in-depth interviews conducted across India, the report examines how cultural values, family structures, community life, and social change shape experiences of belonging and loneliness in the Indian context.
