JAMMU, MARCH 29: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Satish Sharma today underscored the Government’s commitment to transforming the sports landscape in Jammu and Kashmir
The Minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of J&K Men’s Hockey Championship 2026.
Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
J&K Police emerged victorious in a closely contested final to lift the title, bringing curtains down on a tournament that witnessed participation from 17 teams across the Jammu and Kashmir.
Felicitating the players and interacting with the teams, the Minister lauded the athletes for their discipline, dedication, and competitive spirit, stating that such tournaments are vital in identifying and nurturing grassroots talent.
“Our government is committed to building an inclusive sports ecosystem. The enthusiasm and talent on display today clearly reflect that Jammu and Kashmir is on the cusp of a sports revolution,” Satish Sharma said.
He emphasized that the administration is actively investing in modern sports infrastructure, professional coaching, and enhanced exposure opportunities to ensure that youth from every corner of the Union Territory can compete at national and international levels.
“We are not only creating champions but also empowering our youth through sports by providing them direction, discipline, and opportunity. Sports will remain a central pillar of our youth engagement strategy,” he added.
Highlighting hockey’s historic significance, the Minister said the sport continues to inspire generations and holds immense potential in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Hockey is part of our national identity, and we are determined to revive its glory by supporting our players and strengthening institutional frameworks,” he remarked.
The Minister also appreciated the role of the J&K Sports Council and Hockey J&K in successfully organising the championship and ensuring wide participation.
The final match showcased high-quality play, with J&K Police displaying superior coordination and composure to outclass Jammu North. The Minister later distributed trophies, medals, and mementos among the winners and participants.
