DLSA Reasi convenes Under Trial Review Committee meeting

 REASI, JANUARY 15: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Reasi today convened Under Trial Review Committee meeting as per Quarterly Schedule issued by National Legal Services Authority for the year 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Reasi, Khalil Choudhary and was attended by the members of the Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC). The Committee reviewed the cases of under trial prisoners and stressed on effective implementation of legal aid measures in accordance with the mandate of UTRC guidelines. The Committee considered 04 cases of UTPs and recommended 02 cases for release.

 The committee members present were District Magistrate Reasi, Nidhi Malik;  Secretary, DLSA Reasi, Pooja Gupta; Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi Vipan Chandran;   Public Prosecutor Pr. District & Sessions Court Reasi Rajesh Bakshi; Chief LADC DLSA Reasi Rashi Baru and Superintendent Sub Jail Reasi S.P Attri.

During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on individual cases of under-trial prisoners, focusing on prolonged detention, eligibility for bail, compounding of offences and other legal provisions aimed at reducing unnecessary incarceration. The Chairman emphasized coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to safeguard the rights of Under trial and to uphold the principles of access to justice and speedy trial. The members assured their full cooperation in implementing the decisions taken during the meeting, reaffirming their commitment to the objectives of the Legal Services Authorities Act and the welfare of Under trial prisoners.

Meanwhile, Under the visionary leadership of Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Reasi (also Pr. District and Sessions Judge Reasi) Khalil Choudhary and Secretary Pooja Gupta, a door to door campaign was also organised by PLVs of DLSA Reasi and TLSC Mahore to generate awareness about the Government Schemes and prohibition of child marriage Act at different villages of the District. The campaign aimed at spreading legal awareness among the general public, particularly the marginalized and vulnerable sections regarding the benefits, eligibility criteria, procedures for availing different Government Welfare Schemes and importance of girl child protection, education and empowerment.
